Thirsty...

If God would have wanted us to live in a permissive society, he would have given us Ten Suggestions and not Ten Commandments.
- Zig Ziglar

Now a days there is a lot of noise in media on freedom and rights of so called 'classes of people', the kind of people who want freedom to exert their 'personal choices'. Is this the same 'freedom' we faught the british for? I dont know. Does democracy mean allowing people to do anything even though they want to do stupid things? I really wonder whether people are making rational demands or this is just what is called 'individualism' in a capitalist democratic society. Maybe we are streaching the word 'freedom' too much.

The pic, some kind of bird you find here. Looks like its thirsty, isnt it?
There is shortage of water in pune and the old lady who stays two blocks away has her overhead tank overflowing at 3 o clock at night. Now since I am working in high tech, the question that comes to my mind is, "Are these the people for whom we are developing better technology? People who just know how to consume and how to waste?"

well lot of thoughts into that one post...
as per personal choices, yes, we need to give that space to everyone....and the issue here is not a new one....it was a practice and a choice in ancient india as well....its just that it wasn't given the same space and the same platform as 'normal' choices were...its people like us who chose to suppress their freedom and till today are doubting its sanctity....
if anything is stupid it is are belief in things to remain eternal n unchangeable....we need to be fair and do justice to our fellow beings....as suppression has never benefited anyone in society...as all it leads is to more stratification.

and as regards the old lady...may be that woman is not even aware of the overflowing tank....u could go n inform her about it if you feel like....or just tell her to get a stopper ball installed!

take a break!

well...to clarify, i didnt mean 'gay' issue here, if the post was understood in that way :)
I was tending towards psudo-spirituality and psudo-intellectualism and psudo-liberalism(does this term exist?) in the post

/-suppression has never benefited anyone in society
I dont agree. You are assuming that people are rational, which is true only sometimes.

as regards to the old lady, what you are saying is correct 'logically', but isnt one responsible to switch-off the motor after switching in on?
there is 20 days water left for pune, no sign of rains, can we still give excuses of 'ignorance'?
well...i am not sure :)

#d_gypsy!
~(~sigh~)~
yes thanks :)

A good, inclusive and mature society is one that exhorts tolerance towards all classes of people while keeping itself and its subjects in harmony at all times. Eventually, as it matures, along with its people, many issues can and will stand resolved.

However, there will be sour elements that will continue to pose a threat to the social structure at all times. Dealing with such instances are a challenge and need to be done in a very timely and appropriate manner!

Having said that, I go back to our constitution, which like many of its counterparts in the world urges its citizens to consider their fundamental duties before laying claim for their fundamental rights!

And as far as water conservation is concerned, the lady better be pulled up and told!

I agree.
Just that tolerance should not become excuse to being irresponsible.

duties, yes, correctly said.

Hmmm. can you believe people make faces that the person being told is on the wrong side? (who are you to tell me this? on their face :))

To elaborate...take for example accidents. now this is not something that people do intentionally but still there will be punishment even though the act was done with 'negligence'.

Also, dont you think if there is a punishment tax put on per leter water wasted, people will conserve more water?

This is not just problem of ignorance da, it has more to do with attitude.
